re:Invent 2024

Registration for the world’s largest cloud event, happening in Las Vegas this December, opened on June 3. But here’s the real question: Are you actually ready for AWS re:Invent?

Thanks to the AWS All Builders Welcome Grant program (which generously covered my flights, tickets, and accommodation 🫶), I had the incredible opportunity to attend AWS re:Invent in December 2024.

And trust me, there are no words big enough to explain just how massive this event is. ✨

Waiting for the keynote

  • Over 1,000 technical sessions and trainings
  • More than 60,000 attendees
  • A gigantic Expo filled with AWS partners and sponsors
  • Countless games, activities, and surprises
  • Unlimited networking opportunities, including meetups and community activities with people from all over the world
  • And so much more…

I would have been totally lost without the advice I received from people who had already experienced this organized chaos. These were the guides that literally saved me, and made my first re:Invent not only survivable but truly unforgettable:

🔹 “The Art of Surviving re:Invent: Tricks from an Eight-Year Veteran”

By AWS Hero Jimmy Dahlqvist

Hands down, one of the most comprehensive guides out there, with no doubt. Jimmy covers everything from travel and activities tips, hotel advice, and weather prep to avoiding scams and mistakes, navigating sessions, and building your schedule.

🔹 “Guide to AWS re:Invent – Tips & Tricks”

By AWS Hero Ran Isenberg

Another fantastic guide with a great focus on how to get around and make the most of sessions. Bonus: Ran’s shopping and socializing tips are super handy!

🔹 “AWS re:Invent Guide for New Attendees (Part 1 & 2)”

By Raphaela Han, Cloud Technologist

This two-part guide goes deep into the logistics and content of the AWS re:Invent sessions. Raphaela shares everything about the venues, food, clothing, what to pack, how to collect swags, and which fireside chats to look out for. If you’re detail-oriented, this one’s for you.

🔹 “Minha Experiência no AWS re:Invent 2022”

By AWS Hero Paloma Lataliza (article in Portuguese 🇧🇷)

Coming from someone who had never been to the desert before, I’m forever thankful for Paloma’s practical advice: lip balm, saline spray, sunscreen, moisturizer… She thought of everything. And hey, Google Translate is your friend!

My Personal Tip: Build Your Schedule Around the Venues

There are many more incredible guides written by amazing AWS Heroes, AWS Community Builders, and All Builders Welcome Grants, like I was last year. So, what could I add to all these incredible bits of advice?

Well, this tip came from my fantastic friends and mentors Jimmy Dahlqvist and Marcus Bladh, and it made all the difference. Now I share that with you, tailored by my own experience:

Plan your schedule based on venue location, not just session content.

Sounds simple, right? But trust me, re:Invent is HUGE. It’s magical, but it can also be overwhelming. Sessions are spread across multiple venues that aren’t exactly close together. Even just moving between rooms in the same building or venues connected by walkways (like The Venetian or Caesars Forum) can take 20–30 minutes. Changing venues? Budget at least an hour.

🔹 So here’s what worked for me:

Pick your #1 must-see session of the day.

Then build the rest of your schedule around that venue or the nearby ones.

This way, you avoid wasting time (and energy) running across Vegas and risking missing a session you pre-booked because you couldn’t get there in time.

You’ll thank yourself when you’re sipping coffee during a chill break instead of sprinting down the Strip or looking for the shuttles in a panic. 😄

So now you’re ready, or at least way more prepared, for the biggest and most inspiring cloud event in the world. Click here to secure your spot for AWS re:Invent 2025, enjoy it to the fullest, and let me know how it goes! ✨🚀☁️❤️
